There are a lot of things in life that have got me sweating and I need a foundation that can stand up to them. American Horror Story? The GRE? Yoga class? 80 degree days in mid-October? Combine this with my naturally oily skin and you get a recipe for “girl who is overly critical of every foundation.” Thankfully, there’s a YouTuber out there that has a keen eye for great foundations: Casey Holmes. When she said this definitely-not-matte foundation works great on oily skin, I was confused, but now I have seen the light with my own two eyes. The CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixer Foundation is the truth!
The 411: This claims to be one of those “looks good, does good” types of foundation. It has SPF 20, antioxidants, and vitamins E, B3, and B5. In addition to literally making your skin better, it’s supposed to offer a nice, luminous glow for an instant healthy look! For $10-$12 you get 30mL in some pretty travel friendly packaging!
The oh, no, no, no’s: The only thing I truly dislike about this foundation is the shade range. On the site they claim to have shades ranging from “light to deep,” but I would consider their range a little lackluster. There are only 14 shades and I’m only 2 shades above the darkest one they offer.
The yeah, yeah, yeah’s: The formula is bomb! It does have a bit of a thicker and slightly more moussey formula, but it isn’t heavy at all! It spreads easily and gives medium to buildable coverage. While it claims to offer luminous and glowy skin, my face has never been too lit with it on. It really does just make your skin look decently hydrated. It doesn’t cling to my dry patches, blends out with a brush or sponge (though I personally favor it with my Real Techniques Blending Sponge), and never looks cakey. I can literally put this on at 6:30 in the morning, go to work, class, and yoga and come back at 9PM looking exactly the same. I don’t know what type of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizadry magic they used to make this, but my muggle self is grateful.
I honestly think this might be my favorite foundation of all time and I am so glad that my YouTube Queen of testing new products, Casey Holmes, turned me on to it. Do I believe it’s actually helping my skin? Beyond the SPF, probably not. That being said, I do think that when it’s on, it makes my face look phenomenal with some astounding lasting power. Like I said earlier, it’s on some Harry Potter level magic!
