What’s better than snuggling up with a good themed film, a cup of hot cocoa, and a bowl of white chocolate covered pretzels? Pretty much nothing else! Today I share the (in)complete list of my must-watch Christmas movies!
A Royal Christmas
I love Hallmark Christmas movies! They’re always very similar, the plot lines are predictable, the acting is a hit or miss, and the scripts are never anything to write home about. Of course, my favorite from the genre are the “nice common girl marries prince with dead father, but his mother hates the common girl for being common.” This one stars Lacey Chabert and is a little different, because they’re already in love at the start of the movie.
A Christmas Prince
This movie is very similar to A Royal Christmas. Similarities include: girl falls in love with prince, queen hates girl, queen wants prince to marry a fancy lady, prince loves helping orphans, girl befriends the servants, and there’s a big reveal with a fancy dress. Differences include: girl is a journalist, girl is pretending to be a tutor, and the prince has a sister. If you have a Netflix subscription (or sign up for a free month trial), then you need to watch this film!
Holiday in Handcuffs
Before I watched trash Hallmark Christmas movies, I used to exclusively watch trash Freeform (previously known as, ABC Family) movies. Let it be known, Melissa Joan Hart is my Freeform queen! In fact, I’ve seen My Fake Fiance at least 10 times! In this movie she plays a sad waitress with a bad perm who is so desperate to impress her parents that she decided to commit a felony – kidnapping! That’s right! She kidnaps Mario Lopez, takes him to a cabin in the middle of a winter, where he develops a case of Stockholm syndrome.
While most of the movies on this list are super cheesy and ulta-cliche, this is actually the highest quality film on this list. In this film, Queen Latifah, a sales associate who dreams of becoming a chef, discovers that she has a terminal illness. Realizing that she does not have much time yet, she decides to live out all her dreams. Also, Common and Emeril are in the movie, so it’s really a superstar cast. It’s a heart warming film and neither Hallmark nor Freeform will ever get on its level.
Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town
Y’all already knew I had to include a holiday classic! This 70’s stop motion piece is short enough to watch if you have a short attention span, but has enough catchy music that you can continue to experience the film even after it has commenced. Learn about the story of Santa Claus and how he changed the lives of children across the planet! More importantly, learn the hit tune “Put One Foot in Front of the Other.”
What’s your favorite cheesy movie of any genre?
