If I didn’t have a blog to run, I would probably be one of those people that use the same 12 products for their makeup routine every day. Of course, there are some products that I’m always on the hunt for, like the least trash foundation on the planet and a powder that won’t make me look like Casper the Friendly Ghost. Save for those items, though, I can be kind of boring, which is why I allow myself to cave to that voice in my head when I’m shopping that says, “Do it for the blog!” So, I did it for the blog many times throughout this year and here is an almost full face of products that have paid off!
My favorite primer of 2017 is the same primer I’ve been using off and on for the past 2 or 3 years, the Elf Poreless Face Primer. It probably isn’t the best on the market, but at the low, low price of $6, it smooths out the skin, fills in my pores, and overall leads to a better foundation application.
The CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixer Foundation took my heart this year! It’s one of those weird foundations that starts looking better the longer it’s on my face and mixes with my skin’s oils. It also has SPF, some vitamins, and the power to make me look flawless!
I rarely talk about this powder, but I use it every single day! It’s the Absolute New York HD Flawless Setting Powder in the shade Banana. I picked it up at a random beauty supply store with low expectations, but it’s truly spectacular. It never makes my face look cakey or powdery, works for baking and basic setting, and is an awesome color!
I haven’t used this blush in a while, because I’ve been playing around with others, but the Wet N Wild ColorIcon Blush in Mellow Wine remains my favorite. It’s long lasting, coral (my favorite tone for blush), and gives my skin a healthy and natural flush!
I’ve got two faves in two different formulas! My favorite liquid highlight has been the Elf Shimmering Facial Whip in Golden Peach. I pop it over my foundation, but under my powder, for a healthy and wet looking glow. My favorite powder highlight has been the Lorac Tantalizing Baked Bronzer. It looks amazing on deeper skin tones, is super buildable, and looks more natural on my skin than most of my other highlighters.
The Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette was my most used palette in 2017. Unfortunately, it was limited edition, so it’s no longer sold, but I’m constantly putting it to work. Almost every single time I don’t use it on an eye look all I can think is, “Why did I turn away from what I know is good and pure?”
I’ve really enjoyed the LA Girl Glide Gel Liners. They’re super pigmented, super creamy, and I usually don’t end up crying them out of my waterline throughout the day. Best part: they’re also super cheap, which is great because I really can’t bring myself to really spend a lot of money on an eyeliner. I just won’t do it.
This is probably the only product on this list that I bought because of the hype in the YouTube and blogsphere. I meant to do a “is it worth the hype?” type of post about it, and never got around to it. Nonetheless, this is the best mascara I used this year. L’Oreal Lash Paradise boosted my lash game up 60 points and gave me a 4.0 GPA. Everyone should have this mascara on hand, because it is a miracle product.
My most used lipstick from 2017 was definitely the Ulta Matte Lip Cream in the shade Courageous. It’s a “my lips, but better” shade for me, goes with every look, and has an ultra comfortable formula. In general, I was obsessed with all three of my matte lip creams from this line, but Courageous was definitely the stand out in terms of wear, application, and pigment.
What were some of your stand out products from 2017?
