On the Chopping Block – Beauty Empties

My attitude towards my makeup products comes from watching Julius on Everybody Hates Chris and adopting his stingy ways. More specifically, I have a hard time throwing products away, because I’m always thinking, “That’s $0.12 worth of concealer! I can still get 2 more swipes from that!” Of course, this means that I get a full run on almost all of my products so I am very prepared to tell you what was trash and what was a true treasure! Here are my beauty (almost, because some of these still have $0.12 worth of product inside that can still be used) empties and my final thoughts on each of them!

Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixer Foundation in Classic Tan

This is truly an amazing foundation and probably the best one I’ve ever tried! I do believe that the shade range needs to be broader, but the formula is fantastic. It’s medium coverage and gives the skin a natural finish! It’s got vitamins and SPF inside of it, so you can feel like you’re doing something good for your skin – even when you’re not. Best part, it stays on all day long without turning into an oily, greasy mess on my face! In fact, it kind of looks better the longer I wear it! You can read my full review on this foundation here.

Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer in Cafe

I enjoyed this concealer enough to buy it twice and continue to scrape the tube in hope of getting more out of it, but I wouldn’t call it the best fit for me. It’s medium coverage and I like that it is a bit more wet and leaves a healthy, natural finish on the skin. What I don’t like is that it makes my under eyes tingle and the tip of the wand isn’t super plush so it kind of scrapes my face. It’s alright, but I definitely prefer the NYX HD Concealer, which is pretty much the same as this but less tingly and with a better wand.

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer in Deep

I don’t hate this concealer, but it’s not great either. The color selection, as with most Maybelline concealers, is terrible and it barely comes with any product. I love that it comes in a little clicky pen with a brush and that it’s very cheap, but that doesn’t make up for the other two problems. You can check out my full review on this concealer here.

L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara

This is such a great mascara and I’m really only allowing myself to throw it out now, because I’ve finally bought a replacement. The wand is so full and has bristles popping out all over the place, so it really catches every single lash and coats them with mascara. It leaves the lashes super black and long and adds volume, without turning my lashes into one big clump. The only downside is that it can be a bit messy to apply and the tube dries out after about a month or two.

Absolute New York HD Flawless Setting Powder in Brightening Banana

Every time I use this powder, I just get reminded of how much I’m failing myself by not going to my local beauty supply stores more often. I picked this powder up at a beauty supply store and buying it was like taking a leap of faith. I had never heard of this brand before, let alone read a review of the product, but I was having an Oily Queen moment and was ready to use anything to try and tone down my sheen. Thankfully, this powder was a winner! It sets my makeup, makes my skin look smooth, and helps block oil throughout the day!

Santee Eyebrow Sword Pencil

I used this pencil a lot throughout the last two months of 2017, not because I was in love with it, but because I was committed to the never ending task of finding out whether or not it was actually good. Now I’m finished with it, and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m not a fan. It definitely isn’t completely horrible, but it’s way too creamy. The physical shape was a thick triangle, which makes it hard to get any precise lines. I think the idea was that you could do a thick, bold pass of color with the wide part and precise lines with the point, but it was so creamy that after stroke 1, the pencil would just round out. You really just need a light hand to make it work, and these hands are just too heavy! Check out my past review on this pencil here.

Burt’s Bees Moisturizing Lip Balm in Pomegranate

I keep telling everyone that my goal for 2018 is to reduce the dry appearance of my body. For the most part, I’m failing, but I’ve done a great job of keeping up with using my lip balm! I actually kept track of it for once and managed to finish it up in about 2 or 3 months! These might be baby steps toward my goal, but they’re steps none the less!

Design Essentials Conditioner

Sometimes my friends compliment me on my hair, which I don’t understand, because I am Hair Confused. I pretty much just throw anything in it and hope that it works or try to match what I think my old hair stylist used, and I think this is the conditioner she used to put in my hair. Either way, I do like this conditioner. I wouldn’t say it gives me the softest, healthiest hair of my life, but it definitely minimizes the effects of the truly terrible shampoos that I test out. Plus, it’s great for shaving!

What products have you finished up lately?

Thanks for reading!

Until next time, have an awesome rest of your day and an amazing rest of your week!
