I’ve been kind of in a rut recently. Or really, I’ve been in a rut since late January/early February when I realized that graduation was coming soon but my plans for “what next” weren’t falling seamless into place. I’m probably going to make another post going more into detail about that later, but the moral of the story is … I don’t really get excited about many things anymore.
I’m typically not a happy go-lucky person anyway, but it’s a little weird to kind of feel like I’m just existing instead of living. This being said, everything isn’t ultra-blah all the time and I don’t want to trap myself into thinking that is my reality when it isn’t. So, I’m going to look at the positives, the things that do keep me going. Here are 5 things that currently bring me joy.
My friends are amazing, lovely, creative, and smart people. They love me and I love them, even though I never say it. Honestly, one of the hardest parts of graduation for me was the fact that many of my friends moved hours away meaning that I don’t get to see them on the daily like I normally would. Thankfully, we still have been keeping in contact. I’ve texted, snapped, and lit some GroupMes on fire with these wonderful people and it’s something that makes me so happy! Everyday I am reminded that these people love and care about me and there is no feeling quite like that.
To be completely honest, it’s not like I wake up in the morning and say, “Yes, the joy of blogging is the only sustenance I need! Someone please carry me over to my laptop!” In fact, at many points, blogging can feel like a bit of a chore, but that isn’t actually a bad thing! It really forces me to do something productive and since I haven’t been doing the two things that normally keep me productive (school and work), I’ve been desperately in need of another outlet. Not only does blogging keep me busy, but it provides a goal for me to work toward and reminds me that I truly can accomplish things in this world!
If you read my post on the 5 apps that fuel my phone, then you already know that I’ve been obsessed with MyFitnessPal. I really want to adopt a healthier lifestyle, which has led to me exploring my food options more. I’ve been trying out new recipes lately and though I haven’t actually loved the results of many of them, I really enjoy the process of putting them together. It’s not exactly relaxing in the same way that baking is – mainly because I bake things I’ve eaten before, but I’ve never eaten most of the stuff I’ve decided to cook – but I love it all the same!
First of all, I’ve been thinking a little bit more about how access to clean drinking water whenever you want it is a privilege. That’s actually a huge bummer and I wish I could talk about water inequity in a more robust way (check back in a month or two, because I really would like to have this more robust conversation!), but it is very odd to think that I have access to clean water but have been paying for bottled water for most of my life. Recently, I’ve been drinking out of the sink more, which is a lot more cost effective and saves a lot of my time. Plus, it’s good for the environment! Really, the only downside is that I pee all the time!
Whenever I’m in a bit of a mood, I always feel compelled to watch Captain America: The First Avenger. While my love for that movie (my favorite Marvel movie!) hasn’t gone away, I’ve been branching out and re-watching other Marvel movies that I haven’t seen in a while including: Iron Man, The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, Deadpool, and even Dr. Strange!
I think the appeal really comes from the community around geeky behavior and interests! Usually when I watch a movie, I’m just like, “Wow, that was alright,” and then it’s over, but fandoms won’t let you do that! You can go online and read the reactions of thousands of people sharing their opinions about what they liked and hated, theorizing about what’s next, and making their own versions of the stuff that y’all mutually love! Not only is their passion and enthusiasm for the universe infectious, but it’s a reminder that just because an experience (such as seeing a movie in a theater) may be over, the conversation, love, care, and attention toward it doesn’t have to end!
What brings you joy and/or what is your favorite MCU movie?
Thanks for reading!
Until next time, have an awesome rest of your day and an amazing rest of your week!
