3 Steps to a Smooth Shave

I don’t know if this is weird or not, but I actually love shaving my legs. It’s just so simple and methodical. Plus, it feels really good when you hop under your sheets at night. This being said, I know that shaving isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and if you like to opt out of it, then more power to you! Save your time and save your money on razors (seriously, you could be saving like $100+ a year). But, if you are a shaving fiend who is looking to make the experience less painful, then do I have the post for you! Here are my 3 quick, easy, and painless steps to a clean and silky smooth shave!

Step 1: Exfoliate

Some people might read this, roll their eyes, and think “Yeah, duh, Liv! Everyone knows you need to do some pre-shaving exfoliation!” If that’s you, then great. I am glad that you didn’t live in the dark for 22 years like I did. For those who were unaware, exfoliating is a game changer.

Essentially, when there’s did skin on top of your legs, your razor will exfoliate for you by scraping it off with the hair. Of course, this means your razor has to do more work and gets clogged up faster. Use a scrub of your choice or a simple coconut oil + sugar scrub (stir together 1 tbsp of each) on your legs to grind away the dead skin ahead of time. It also leaves your legs a little slick so your razor glides seamlessly over your skin!

Step 2: Condition

Y’all might be thinking, “What??? Conditioner is for hair on your head, not on your legs!” I understand, boo, but I’m telling you that it’s the truth! Conditioner is hands down the best thing I’ve used to shave my legs. Soap isn’t thick enough, shaving cream is expensive and disappears when hit with the tiniest bit of water, and straight up oil will clog up your blades and potentially your pipes. I recommend using the Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasure Conditioner, which is thick, creamy, and will stand up to your shower.

Step 3: Shave

Now this, in my opinion is the fun part. Shave in long strokes against the grain to make sure you cut the hair extra close (though I do go sideways across my knees, because shaving them is kind of scary). Flex your legs a bit so you can make sure you’re pulling the skin taught. Also, remember to rinse your blade in-between strokes to degunk it!

As for razors, I don’t recommend using anything with less than 3 blades or anything without a moisture strip. The best ones I’ve used are the Schick Quattro for Sensitive Skin and the Schick Hydro Silk razors!

  1. I shave my legs every second day and I knew about the conditioner hack. I also love to use baby oil and splash with the water, the mixture of oil and water really smoothes up the skin and the razor glades perfectly!
