Hello, magical people! Today, I introduce you to a controversial palette made by the hands of one of my favorite controversial influencers. If you rocked with me during the past blogmas season, then you might remember this baby from my list of bomb beauty gift ideas for $15 or less. I dropped this into the list and then immediately dropped a link to purchase it in my mom’s inbox in case she was still searching for a present for your’s truly. Well, Santa-Mom came through this year and I am here to dish the deets on this palette!
Jaclyn Hill and Morphe released 4 palettes in The Vault collection. They all have 10 shades with a mix of mattes and shimmers. I chose the Ring the Alarm palette which leans very warm toned. It has 5 matte shades, 4 shimmers, and 1 “gleaming” shadow. It comes in slim cardboard packaging with a top mirror and claims to have “beyond-creamy color” (whatever that’s supposed to mean), be “highly pigmented,” and be “super blendable.”
Dishing Out the Hard Truths
I know there was a lot of controversy when these palettes first came out. People were saying that they weren’t that pigmented and were difficult to blend. I haven’t had any problems pigmentation wise, but there is one really patchy shade. “Framed” is hard to work with and skips on my eyes, especially when paired with my fluffiest blending brush.
There’s also a bit of a learning curve with the shadows. I initially thought the matte shades weren’t pigmented, because I’m so used to Lorac shadows which are super soft and intense. These shadows are very firm. For the mattes you have to swirl the brush in a circle to pick up product and for the shimmers, you have to swipe up and down to really get the shade.
Dessert is Served!
Color wise, I have not found something that fits my preferences like this palette does! It has the oranges, the pinks, the plums, a deep gold, and a chocolate shade. It’s literally every color that I need! I find that a lot of palettes have shades that I won’t use or that look too visibly similar on the eyes, but every shade in here is special in it’s own way – except for “Framed,” which is pretty but performs terribly.
I also am very sold on the shimmer shades. Yes, you have to swippy-swipe to pick up the product, but it’s worth it! They go on so intense that they almost look foiled or metallic. You don’t even have to wet your brush! Every single one of those shimmer shades really makes the palette. Also, did I mention the palette is only $15???
My final verdict is that I love this palette, but it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. I’m mainly sold on the color selection and the shimmery shades, which totally make up for the learning curve. If you love these colors, I recommend this palette, but it’s definitely not a “gotta catch ’em all” type of deal.
Have you tried any of The Vault palettes?
Thanks for reading!
Until next time, have an awesome rest of your day and an amazing rest of your week!
