Clean Brushes in 20 Seconds or Less? Makeup Brush Cleaner & Dryer Review

My favorite type of gifts are the random kind that may or may not be the answer to life’s biggest questions. That’s why I was so excited when I opened up a Christmas present from my dad and discovered that it was a makeup brush cleaner and dryer. I had never seen one in person, but I have seen tons of them in action on Instagram and well … Instagram will scam you! I instantly went on the hunt for the truth! Is this product the solution to all of my brush problems or is it a complete flop?

The Briefing

There are a lot of these products online, but I think this $18 no name one from Amazon is the one that I own. It comes with a lot of pieces: the brush swirly part (aka the “motor shaft”), a bowl + protective neck, 8 brush collars, a holding base for the collars, and 2 AAA batteries.

To use it, you first put the smallest amount of soap and water in your bowl with the neck on. I use dish soap, because I’m broke as a joke and won’t pay for brush cleanser. Then, you attach an appropriately sized brush collar to the electric swirly. You manually swirl your brush in the water, to get off some of the product. Then, you turn it on and let the magic happen. Have it spin in the water to wash and above the water to dry.

Put brush collar on brush & attach to the swirly part.
Tap off excess product in water.
Spin in water to wash.
Spin above water to dry.

The Villains

First things first: this does not actually clean and dry your brushes in 20 seconds. It’s fast, but it’s not that fast. You have to let your brush spin in the water for about 30 seconds to get the best cleaning action going. Then, dry time really depends on the size and density of the brush. Larger, denser brushes take a little bit longer to dry.

Also, this will not clean all of your brushes. When your brush spins, the bristles fan out. This helps your brushes get clean and dry because each individual bristle gets hit with a lot of soapy water and air. Brushes that are made to stay firm and compact, like eyeliner brushes, won’t work with this because they don’t fan out well. Additionally, this works better with brushes dirtied by liquid or powdery products. Anything that dries hard and isn’t very water soluble won’t come off with this contraption.

The Heroes

Let’s just give the makers of this product a round of applause for including the batteries in the box! They really did a lot to make this product very user friendly. They included a neck to keep water from splashing out of the bowl while you clean your brushes. They put a base together to hold all of the brush collars. It’s really just smart design.

Moreover, this thing actually works! The only reason I hate washing my brushes is because it takes forever for them to dry. This dries my brushes in about 30 seconds! Even my powder brush, which usually takes about 24 hours to dry, dries in less than a minute! It also really cleans your brushes! I don’t think that it gives a true deep clean, but it gets all of my brushes ready to take on the day!

Mission Report

This thing is great for casual cleansing of your brushes, though I would still recommend giving them a traditional deep clean every other week and using the spinny tool to dry. It cleans my brushes in about a minute and is super easy to use! It’s shockingly good!
