Hey, y’all! I am currently in the middle of an endless makeup struggle: I believe I own way too much makeup and simultaneously think that I don’t have enough. I don’t understand it, but I’m slowly coming to terms with it and trying to live a better life despite it. Phase 1 in my “living a better makeup life” is getting rid of items that have no purpose in my makeup collection. Members of the Kondo Club might call these the items that don’t “spark joy.” I call them the mostly expired trash that masks the products I actually want to get my hands on! Here they are!
Listen … I am a palette queen. Single shadows just don’t spark joy for me! Also, it’s so hard to keep up with them and travel with them. Life is just way easier when you have a palette of at least 8 shades on deck and that’s why these have to go! The only saving grace was this discontinued ColourPop SuperShock Shadow in Wilshire, which was my go to eyeshadow base, primer, and natural lid look until the day it dried out. RIP.
Can you tell that I love red lips? I usually go for a nude, but I love a red. Unfortunately, all of these were wrong. The AOA liquid lipsticks were from their metallic line and I quickly realized that metallic lips have no place in my life. The NYX red is a bit too pink and the berry shade from Maybelline is actually cute but it’s a bit too much work to get the best out of it. As for the Too Faced shade, which is actually a nude, I just don’t have time for it. It literally looks like crushed up powder donuts mixed with Vaseline on my lips. If I had fair skin, I’m sure it’d be gorgeous, but it’s just straight up disrespectful on my beautiful brown image.
First things first, this Eyelure Brow Crayon is the truth, but I’m 99% sure that it’s been discontinued. I have literally been holding onto the empty shell of what once was just in case it comes back and I need a refresher on what it looks like. These other pencils though, they aren’t quite as iconic. They’re just too dry and don’t perform as well as I need them to. They work fine in a pinch, but I have better pencils in my collection.
I’m not in love with any of these products, but I’m pretty sure that they’re all expired. This Elf Shimmering Facial Whip used to be a favorite of mine, but now the golden glitter has separated out so it’s kind of gross. The Maybelline Master Conceal works fine, but I’m a fan of wet, creamy, dewy concealers and this ain’t it. Lastly, the AOA concealers work for some people, but not for me. The color selection is pretty good (25 shades to choose from and they’re all $1 – like, your fave could never), but once again, I’m not a fan of the formula.
What products do you need to say goodbye to?
Thanks for reading!
Until next time, have an awesome rest of your day and an amazing rest of your week!
